With a huge 22-member age-appropriate cast (most are around 13), the staging and choreography are perfect for SDMT’s intimate house. DRACULA: THE JOURNAL OF JONATHAN HARKER - REVIEW OF AN EERIE TALE

Erica Kahn directs this diabolical reading, which I imagine is not an easy chore via Zoom. It's a two man show; Samuel Calto, who plays Dracula, and another character. His cadences are wonderful, perfect for both characters. Jonathan Fong takes on the difficult role of Jonathan Harker, storyteller, compelling us into the story the more he tells…

THEATRE AND DANCE STUDENTS TAKE THE LEAD IN SPRING QUARTER’S VIRTUAL PRODUCTIONS

Community has always been an integral part of the dance curriculum, and undergraduate students typically present their work in a run of evening performances during spring quarter. Led by Distinguished Professor of Dance Patricia Rincon, this year’s New Directions: An Experimental Dance and Digital Performance will premiere online June 4, 5 and 6, featuring 11 distinct pieces choreographed and performed by students.

A BELOVED DANCE PROFESSOR RETIRES AND HER STUDENTS TURN TO FILM

Each student approached their digital dance project differently, and each is highly produced. One student, a health care first responder, took to the abandoned beaches. Another used animated figures. Another enlisted sixteen other dancers on Zoom to perform in unison. One danced in a closet. The package of films is a time capsule not just of student creativity, but of the places and ways these students existed during a global crisis…
